COP28: Key takeaways
What were the outcomes of COP28 and how does the circular economy systems transition fit in?
Published on
Eliminating waste and pollution is a core principle of the circular economycircular economyA systems solution framework that tackles global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution. It is based on three principles, driven by design: eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials (at their highest value), and regenerate nature.. Our Climate Lead, Miranda Schnitger, moderated the second of two panels that made up this COP28 Presidency event. The first panel focused on improving waste management and tackling GHG emissions including methane, and the second looked at upstream circular economy opportunities and the climate contributions from these. The event was organised by the Climate and Clean Air Coalition, Roland Berger, UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, and UN-Habitat, and included the launch of the Waste to Zero initiative.
The Ellen MacArthur Foundation works to accelerate the transition to a circular economy. We develop and promote the idea of a circular economy, and work with business, academia, policymakers, and institutions to mobilise systems solutions at scale, globally.
